Gallantry and Loyalty
On 04, Jul 2014 | In Events | By Nicola Gauld
The WAWI Project and Perry Barr Housing Liaison Board invite you to join us in marking the Centenary of World War One. On Thursday 10th July from 1pm – 3pm we host a community Commemoration at the Kingsdown Avenue Recreational Area in Great Barr.
Recognising the Gallantry and Loyalty of British, Caribbean and Commonwealth contributions during the First World War, this event provides an opportunity to not only learn about but also experience living history; highlighting the pivotal role these nations played in the accomplishment and defence of the British Empire.
Come along and meet Veterans, see Replica Military Battle Standards from the West India Regiment on Parade, share your own family stories and receive advice on how to retrace your ancestry.
Explore our Pop-Up Exhibition and learn about the heroism of Walter Tull at the Battle of The Somme, the legacy of Windrush migration and the re-building of post war Britain.
Meet the Perry Barr Housing Team and find out how you can get involved in reshaping your neighbourhood.
We look forward to seeing you. If you would like to find out more information about The WAWI Project please visit: www.whyarewestindians.co.uk/
