The Diary of Dorothy Priest, August 24th 1914

News at last but very little.  British cavalry were fighting yesterday or the day before and were not beaten but were holding their own.  The report is not officially confirmed.

Aileen is shut up in Berlin and they are not having a very good time there.  We have given up being extra careful with the food now for two or three weeks as we don’t seem likely to run short as there has been such a splendid crop of nearly everything at home and the colonies will help us as long as we can keep the seas open.
