Germans advancing in Belgium and we [are] retreating.  The line is now almost the same as the Franco-Belgian frontier. The Russians are advancing though.

I went into town today.  In many of the shops is stuck up the notice, in red, white and blue, with the Union Jack ‘Patriotic Britons, motto: Business as usual’.  There are flags and portraits of the most important men all over the place and the music shops are showing special patriotic music, the Marseilles being very popular.  Town is very quiet nowadays.
