The Diary of Dorothy Priest, September 19th 1914

The Battle of the Aisne has been raging for six days now. I don’t think we are losing.
Austria seems to be thinking about peace. Sir Edward Carson is married and all I have seen about it is about two dozen lines in the middle of a page of the Mirror, no photographs, not even a decent sized headline! Just tucked away in the middle of remarks on the day’s news. And Sir Edward Carson too, of all people! Two months ago there would have been any amount of photographs, biographies etc, and the Mail would have been full of it. I suppose it is the same with other equally important events now, all crowded out by unimportant details, rumours, and pictures of the war. Tale est bellum.
