Women’s Work: Stories of the Factory Workers

Women and Theatre are being funded to carry out a heritage research project in the Small Heath community between January and March 2015.
The project will focus on the lives of women working in the local factories during WWI and research gathered will be used to create a new piece of theatre, to be performed in March 2015.

History talk with Dr Chris Upton from 2pm-3pm – FREE
Dr Chris Upton (Newman University) will be giving a short talk about Small Heath during the war years, the role of women in the factories and the importance of the Birmingham Small Arms factory. Open to all members of the general public.

Relatives research session from 2pm-4pm
Did a female member of your family work in the factories during WWI? Do you have stories that have been passed down through your family, or photos of the period? Do come and share your memories with us at this session to help inform our research.
There are also opportunities for women from Small Heath to join the project as participants – to help with research and/or perform in the final theatre piece.
