The Diary of Dorothy Priest, February 5th 1915

Everything is keeping very quiet at present, it is the calm before the storm.

Daddy says something very big and terrible will happen in the next three weeks.  If the war is to end by May 1^st it gives three weeks to do the work and two months to clear up the mess.  He is very certain about his prophecy but he says no one believes him.  The Kaiser is said to have given the Iron Cross to all the crew of U21 which sank five merchant vessels off the Irish coast.  But there is reason to believe that U22, with many more German submarines, is at the bottom of the sea, though nothing at all has been officially stated concerning them.  The Germans are getting desperate.
