WOMEN RESERVISTS’ FEAT AT WITTON.
A feat of no little magnitude has just been accomplished by the local Women’s Volunteer Reserve. At the request of the Lord Mayor, they undertook to cart and spread 200 tons of manure for a Witton farmer during the Easter holidays. They have exceeded that amount in four days, and many women gave up their holidays to do the work. The farmer, who gave them every facility, says he is very satisfied with the way in which the work has been done. It has been paid for as a piecework at the ordinary rates, and the money received has been voted by the members to the equipment of the new clubrooms in High Street.
