BIRMINGHAM WOMEN TRAM CONDUCTORS.

MEN’S POSITIONS NOT MENACED.

An official denial was forthcoming yesterday to the allegation made by Mr. J. E. Corren, of Birmingham, at the conference of the Amalgamated Association of Tramway and Vehicle Workers at Sheffield, that in Birmingham and district they were told by the officials they were not going to have men as conductors again. Mr. Corren further said that in Birmingham the position of the men was one of grave concern, for it was menaced by the women.
Mr. A. Baker, the manager of the Birmingham Tramways, stated yesterday that there was not the slightest truth in the suggestion here made. The positions, according to the promise, would be kept upon for the men who had gone to the front.
