WOUNDED IN BIRMINGHAM.
CHEERED BY A WAITING CROWD AT SELLY OAK.
The first batch of wounded soldiers from the new battlefield in France reached Birmingham last night, the train arriving at Selly Oak Railway Station a little after half-past ten. There were 94 men, but 54 were cot cases. A fleet of motor ambulances was in attendance and with all expedition and care the men of the R.A.M.C., under the direction of Major Sawyer, had the wounded transferred and despatched to the First Southern General Hospital at Bournbrook and other military hospitals in the neighbourhood. Outside the station a large crowd of people had assembled, and gave the wounded hearty cheers as the ambulances drove away. Superintendent Boulton was in charge of the police arrangements.
