WAR SOUVENIR FOR BIRMINGHAM
Officers and men of H.M.S. Birmingham have forwarded to the Lord Mayor a souvenir in the shape of a fragment, six feet long, of a shell fired at the Birmingham by a German battleship in the battle of May 31. In a letter accompanying the gift it is stated that the ship was never struck, although shells fell near. As the people of Birmingham had always evinced much interest in the ship, the souvenir would remind them that it was not only on land but on sea that their town took its part in the struggle.
