CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.
CROWDED BIRMINGHAM STREETS.
Taking advantage of the improved weather conditions, many thousands of persons came into the central streets of Birmingham this afternoon for Christmas shopping. The large emporiums were crowded, and the poulterer’s establishments were besieged. The demand for turkeys was enormous and prices, already high, further appreciated. Among the working classes there would appear to be no shortage of money, and some retailers had record business. Without hesitation many artisans showed no hesitation in paying a couple of pounds for a turkey.
