MR HILEY GOES TO LONDON
SERVICES REQUISITIONED BY THE PRIME MINISTER
TO BE CHIEF OF STAFF OF NATIONAL SERVICE
Mr E.V. Hiley, the former Town Clerk of Birmingham, who recently joined the directorate of the Metropolitan Carriage and Wagon Company at Saltley, has now gone to London. It appears that the Prime Minister himself made a personal application for his services as Chief of Staff of the Director of National Service, and the chairman of the company (Mr. Dudley Docker), feeling of course, that he could not resist such an appeal, gave Mr. Hiley permission to transfer his position his services to Mr. Neville Chamberlain. The matter came to a board meeting of the Metropolitan Company this morning, and Mr. Docker’s action in the matter was confirmed. Mr. Hiley joined the directorate at the beginning of December last, and having just got into the routine of his new duties his loss to the company will be greatly felt. It is understood that his services are but temporarily placed at the disposal of the Government and without remuneration.
