BIRMINGHAM WAR ECONOMY CENTRE
The War Economy Centre established by the Birmingham Citizens Committee in the new Windsor Arcade, off Bull Street, was opened this morning, the company present including the Lady Mayoress (Mrs. Brooks) and Lady Bowater. Councillor Miss Clara Martineau welcomed the Lady Mayoress, and explained the work proposed to be done at the centre by giving practical demonstrations twice daily in economical cookery and other branches of housecraft, and in inculcating thrift. Miss Hayward, of the National Food Economy League, then gave an address on food values, with illustrations of economical cooking.
