VICARAGE OF YARDLEY
APPOINTMENT DECLINED BY CANON GONNER
Canon E. P. Gonner, vicar of St. John’s, Deritend, announced to his congregation on Sunday last that he had been offered the vicarage of Yardley, rendered vacant by the death of the Rev. F. R. Hooper, and that he would take a few days to consider the matter. At the annual parochial gathering on Tuesday evening Canon Gonner stated that, considering the offer, and with the advice of friends, he had decided to remain at St. John’s, as he believed the large and important parish of Yardley required a younger man than himself. Canon Gonner, who has been vicar of St. John’s since 1905, is one the clerical secretaries of the Bishop of Birmingham’s Fund, and also the Hospital Sunday Fund, and is honorary chaplain the Children’s Hospital.
