ENGLISH SCHOOLS SHIELD
Birmingham boys were beaten by the Birkenhead boys in the English Schools Shield on Saturday, the Cheshire boys winning by a solitary goal scored in the second half.
A crowd numbering nearly 5,000 assembled on the Tranmere Rovers’ ground on Saturday to witness a match in the English Schools Shield between the Birmingham and Birkenhead boys. Birmingham quite impressed the onlookers by their nippy and clever movements, but the attack failed to make any impression on a sturdy defence, which really won Birkenhead the match, a goal scored in the second half deciding the issue. Lampitt and Thornicroft were especially noticeable in the visitors’ defence.
