SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
DAMAGE IN THE MIDLANDS
During the severe thunderstorm which raged over West Bromwich and district today a house in Temple Street, occupied by a widow named Mrs. Paddock, was struck by a thunderbolt which entered the roof near the chimney, passed through the gable, and struck the ground in the yard, smashing up the quarries. The floor of the bedroom and also an adjoining room were damaged, but children who were sleeping in the room escaped harm.
At Cookhill, near Alcester, a house occupied by Mr. S. Winnett, was struck by lightning, and considerable damage was done. Pictures were dragged from the walls, and furniture was torn to pieces. All the occupants were in the house at the time, but fortunately escaped injury.
