BIRMINGHAM CRIPPLES’ UNION
Today a street collection was taken on behalf of the finds of the Birmingham Cripples’ Union. Over 1,000 children and 400 adults are under the care of the society, and the claims show a continual upwards tendency. Two thousand voluntary collectors were engaged from an early hour, and this afternoon the prospects of a good collection were extremely good.
Today’s collection is being made under the auspices of the workmen’s committee of the Union. They hope to raise £1,500-£1,000 towards the annual income of the society, and the £500 towards the extinction of a debt of £1,000, the pressure of which is hampering the society’s curative work. During the last five years the total income of the society has increased from £2,325 to £7,650.
