POST OFFICE WAGES
TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES DISSATISFIED IN BIRMINGHAM
There would appear to be a good deal of discontent among the “temporary” employees in the service of the Birmingham Post Office. They complain that while the permanent employees whose wages are less than £2 have received a weekly war bonus of 4s., the temporary men in the parcels department have been paid only 2s. of the 4s. war bonus which had been promised. It is suggested, moreover, that the position of the temporary male employees does not compare satisfactorily with that of men in similar positions in other Midland towns. The grievances have been tabulated, and a protest has been sent to the Postmaster-General, who is asked to authorise a revision of wages in the Birmingham area.
