HONOUR FOR A BIRMINGHAM SOLDIER
Private Walter Ayres of 10th Hussars, who was formerly call boy in the employ of the London and North-Western Railway Company, Curzon Street, has been awarded the Military Medal for the conspicuous bravery. His parents, who reside at 7/72, Arthur Street, have received news that the medal was awarded to him for carrying messages under heavy shell fire. Although wounded, he continued “carrying on” until relieved. Private Ayres, who is only 21 years of age, is an Old Boy of Dixon Road Council School.
