SOLIHULL OFFICER’S GOOD WORK
Lieutenant Copplestone Arthur James Heckford, Royal Engineers, awarded the Military Cross, is the elder son of Mr. Arthur E. Heckford, of Solihull. The act for which he was given the Cross is thus described in the “London Gazette” of the 16th inst.:- “He superintended the laying of an important cable under heavy shell fire. It was largely due to his disregard of danger and the fine example shown that the work was successfully carried through.” He has been twice mentioned in despatches, and since winning the Military Cross has been given his captaincy.
