THE V.A.D—EARS!

The war record “the V.A.D-ears,” as a wounded soldier very aptly renamed the ladies of the Voluntary Aid Detachments is one on which they can be proud and although the complete story of what the members have done during the war is yet to be written, Miss Thekla Bowser in “The Story of the British V.A.D. Work in the Great War” (Melrose, 5s. net) gives illuminating glimpses of their devoted duty at home and abroad.

A chapter is given to work in Birmingham, most of these pages being taken up with a description of the “Birmingham Rest Station” at Snow-hill which arranges for refreshments to be served to all wounded passing through the station. The fame of this work has spread far and wide Miss Bowser tells us, and even in France she heard it spoken of in tender accents.

The book full of interesting facts about a most interesting work and it deserves wide circle of readers.

Parts of Bowser’s book is available to read on Google Books
