SHORTAGE OF COOKING OIL.
A serious position has arisen in the fried fish trade in Birmingham and the Midlands owing to the sudden cessation, at Government direction, of the supplies of cottonseed oil. The fish demand is likely to be seriously affected. Possibly more cottonseed oil is required for the manufacture of margarine. The complaint of the fried fish vendors is that the substitute recommended at 150s. per cwt., compared with 85s. per cwt. for cottonseed oil, is unsatisfactory. Resolutions adopted by the trade have been forwarded to the Food Controller.
