BIRMINGHAM CHARITY SPORTS.
The Charity Sports Committee have raised over £7,000 for the charities of Birmingham said the district during the last 36 years, and hopes were entertained that that sum would be materially increased as the result of the sports meeting at Aston today. The weather was not entirely favourable for the event, a strong, cold wind sweeping the ground; nevertheless, there were over 5,000 spectators present, and the excellent sport provided was much enjoyed. In addition to cycle and foot races there was an apple-and-water race for wounded soldiers and sailors, a cigarette race, in which the competitors were wounded soldiers and sailors and nurses, an excellent gymnastic display by the members of the Dolobran Athletic Club, and an exhibition of pole-jumping by W. Dampier, of the Dolobran A.C.
