THE NEW RATION BOOKS FOR BIRMINGHAM

To-day is the first day for the reception of application forms from the citizens of Birmingham for the new ration books. Already a considerable number have been sent in advance to the local Food Office in Margaret Street, and it is hoped that the whole of the forms will be forwarded without delay. The citizens are again reminded that proper means have been provided for the collection of the reference leaves, which are actually the forms of application, and they are asked to comply strictly with the request to deposit the forms in the boxes provided at the Council schools or leave them the Food Office. On no account must they be sent through the post. The authorities at the Food Office have gone to a considerable amount of trouble and expense in organising their scheme of collection as to give the public as little inconvenience as possible and to make sure of getting the whole of the reference leaves without risk loss, and if their instructions are carried out it is felt that little difficulty, if any, will arise. The present ration books are available for some little time yet, but the idea in asking for the application forms for the new books to be sent in now is to enable the staff to prepare the new books so as to be in a position to send them to the householders during the last week in October, when the old books expire. Then the new ones will be in the possession of the citizens in time for use during the week beginning November 3.
