HANDSWORTH’S VC
PLANS FOR PRESENTATION TO SERGEANT FINCH.
The committee having the arrangements in hand for the presentation to Sergeant Finch, V.C., met again on Wednesday last. Substantial contributions were reported.
The date of the demonstration was definitely fixed for Saturday, 28 September. The Commanding Officer of the Royal Marine Artillery having granted Sergeant Finch special leave. A procession will march through the streets of Handsworth in which the O.T.C., the Boy Scouts, and— it is expected—the local Volunteers will participate.
About 8,000 school children will be grouped round the band stand in Handsworth Park to sing patriotic songs. The presentation will be made by Alderman A. Sanders, and will consist of an illuminated address, prepared by the Handsworth Art School, where Norman Finch was once a student, and war bonds.
In case of rain the presentation will take place in the Grove-lane Council Schools.
