EX-SOLDIERS WAGES
3,500 WORKERS INVOLVED IN A TIPTON STRIKE
A strike affecting 3,500 operatives, including many girls, was declared at a large Tipton factory yesterday.
The Press were informed by one of the works’ officials that the employees had struck in consequence of some grievance, but as it had not then been investigated, he was not prepared to discuss it.
From inquiries among some of the workmen involved the dispute is attributed to the treatment of certain discharged soldiers who, it is alleged, are receiving only 9d. per hour, the demand of the strikers being that they should be paid the full shop rate of 63s. 6d. per week.
