FIFTY DEATHS IN BIRMINGHAM LAST WEEK
Whilst, as already explained, influenza is not widespread in Birmingham, there are a certain number of cases in the city, and last week there were 50 deaths attributable to the malady, whilst there were 28 deaths due to respiratory disease. Last week the deaths from the disease numbered seven, and in the previous week four. Just now, with the cold weather, the influenza is likely to be made more dangerous than in the case of the former outbreak of the disease in the summer, when there was not the same risk of pneumonia. At the present season, therefore, influenza patients should be doubly careful not to expose themselves to chills.
