One third of the Worcestershire 2nd battalion were lost at the Battle of Gheluvelt on 31st October 1914 which has an almost mythical status in the history of the regiment and the city. In advance of the 100 year anniversary of Gheluvelt Day Dr Spencer Jones (University of Wolverhampton) will speak on ‘The Demon Saves the Day: Charles FitzClarence VC and the Battle for Gheluvelt’, followed by Dr Janis Lomas (Independent Scholar) discussing ‘The Women Gheluvelt Left Behind: WW1 Widows’.
