Tunes from the Trenches: Looking Back to World War One
November 6, 2014 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
FREE SCHOOLS PERFORMANCE FOR KS2 PUPILS!
Time travel with the Stringcredibles to commemorate the Centenary of the First World War in this 50 minute show specially written for KS2 pupils.
Journey with us into the past, to the year 1914. We explore the ‘War to End All Wars’: why it started, what it was like and how it sounded. Discover amazing string quartet music performed by world class musicians, a brand new song by composer Rebecca Lawrence and traditional tunes arranged by Timothy Jackson.
Accompanying the spectacular sounds are projected visuals from the Imperial War Museum, excerpts from the award winning book, ‘Archie’s War’ by Marcia Williams and Michael Morpurgo’s acclaimed novel, ‘War Horse’.
Introduce pupils to the incredible world of classical music, inspire a passion for history and bring your First World War projects to life.
We look specifically at themes of…
· Friendship and loyalty
· Pacifism and patriotism,
· Musical propaganda
· Life in the trenches
· Reunion and remembrance
· The achievements and follies of mankind
· Continuity and change
· Cause and consequence of national and international history
This engaging and interactive performance uses music in a way that will make the lessons of the Great War impossible to forget.
