Sepoy’s Salute: new production by Big Brum
On 15, May 2015 | In Performance | By Nicola Gauld
Big Brum Theatre in Education Company are proud to present their 2015 World War One play, ‘Sepoy’s Salute’, which tours to schools in June and July. It is appropriate for upper primary and all secondary ages.
The play is set in France, 1915 and sees an Indian Muslim Sepoy fighting for the British Empire and encountering a sniper and an officer in a ravaged wood after a gas attack. Duty, loyalty and freedom are questioned in an atmosphere of suspicion, confusion and devastation.
‘Sepoy’s Salute’ can be booked as a Theatre in Education programme for small groups of young people or as a performance to larger groups up to entire year groups. Extensive teachers resources will be produced for preparatory and follow up work, allowing teachers to explore the dilemmas and contradictions in this ‘hidden history’ production.
