Commemoration of the Battle of Gallipoli, Saturday 25th April 2015, 11am-5.30pm, Centenary Square, Birmingham
This year Birmingham will be taking part in the commemorations to mark the Centenary of the Gallipoli Campaign
This event will start at 11am with a wreath laying at the Hall of Memory attended by the Lord Mayor, the Dean of Birmingham, members of the Gallipoli Association and British Royal Legion.
There will also be live entertainment from 12noon onwards in Centenary Square.
There will also be events in Centenary Square to mark St George’s Day.
The programme for the day is as follows:

Martin Barrie – Singer and Banjo player
Historic Promotions will be providing displays such as:
Children’s Drill & marching
British soldiers and life in the trenches
Gallipoli uniforms, weapons and life of a soldier on the campaign
Toy Soldier Pewter casting and painting
Western Front Association will be hosting talks in the Library of Birmingham:
2.00pm – 2.30pm Overview of first year of the war
2.45pm – 3.15pm Gallipoli 1915
3.30pm – 4.00pm Neuve Chapelle
4.15pm – 4.45pm Trench Welfare Department
Workshop for Schools will be hosting 3 workshop sessions throughout the afternoon entitled “Changes in Women’s Role during WW1”.
The 1914 Sikh Heritage Platoon will be on site giving talks on the history of the platoon and their involvement in WW1.
There will also be a food and drink area offering traditional English fayre, as well as activities for all the family.
