Not all Jam and Jerusalem: the WI in the First and Second World Wars
A series of events marking the centenary of the first English WI meeting in November 1915
At The Hive, Sawmill Walk, The Butts, Worcester, WR1 3PB
17-22 November
An exhibition of images, artefacts and information about the history of the Women’s Institute Movement, formed 100 years ago by women’s suffrage campaigners to improve the nation’s food supply in WW1.
Wednesday 18 November 10am-4pm
An Activity Day which demonstrates that in wartime the Women’s Institutes did much more than make jam and sing Jerusalem. Watch re-enactments of early WI meetings, enjoy some of the activities that the WI’s undertook in wartime such as knitting and needlework. Take part in evacuation surveys, swap wartime recipes, join a pig-club, plan the post-war world or your ideal home and help construct a virtual quilt.
