BIRMINGHAM AND SAILORS’ DAY
There is to be a flag day in Birmingham and district on October 21, in recognition of the services performed during the war by the officers and men of the British mercantile marine. Similar efforts have been or are to be made in other parts of the country, the movement having been organised by the joint committees of the Navy League and the British and Foreign Sailors’ Society. Admiral Lord Beresford, suggests the organisation of the most ample facilities possible for the education – preferably for a sea career – of the children of those brave sailors who have lost their lives or who have sustained permanent injury during the process of the war. The local hon. treasurers are Alderman A. Sanders and Mr. A. J. Leeson, 110, Colmore Row, to whom subscriptions may be sent.
