MYSTERIOUS EXPLOSION IN BIRMINGHAM
A mysterious explosion which occurred late on Sunday night, is being investigated by the Birmingham police. It was of a violent character, the windows of the Midland Hotel and other property being smashed, and a large arc lamp brought down. After close examination the police discovered fragments of a hand grenade, and they are of the opinion that the explosion was caused by thoughtless act of someone, probably a soldier. In the circumstances they state it dispels the idea that it was the work of an enemy sympathiser.
