PRICE OF BEER IN BIRMINGHAM.

ONE QUALITY AT 7d. PER PINT.

The Greater Birmingham Licensed Trade Committee has decided upon the action to be taken to deal with the problem arising from the restriction of the output of beer of the country to 10,000,000 barrels per annum. The committee has decided that only one quality of beer shall be brewed, and this will be sold at 7d. per pint, 3 1/2d. per half-pint, and a minimum price of 2 1/2d. per glass, six of such glasses making a quart. The adoption of one medium strength beer means the disappearance of the distinctive drinks known as ale, now sold at 5d. per pint, and beer sold at 3 1/2d. per pint, and was forecasted in the “Mail” a few weeks ago. The alteration will take effect on April 2. No decision has yet been arrived at the committee in regard to the prices of bottled beers and stouts or of spirits.
