DUDLEY ROAD SHOPKEEPER FINED.

In the Third Court of Birmingham Police to-day, George Arrowsmith, 399, Dudley Road, was fined 20s. for selling potatoes at a price above the minimum fixed by the Government. Inspector Ping stated that on Saturday, March 10, a woman named Edith Davis purchased 2lb, of potatoes, for which she was charged 2d. a lb. When spoken to the defendant’s explanation was that they were seed potatoes, but, added the inspector, there was a long queue outside, and it was quite evident the purchasers did not want the potatoes for seed. A summons against Winifred Arrowsmith, who actually sold the potatoes, was withdrawn.
