MEASLES EPIDEMIC IN BIRMINGHAM
The measles epidemic continues to grow in Birmingham. All parts of the city are, more or less, affected, and it is to be noted that areas in which there has been a good deal of disease are now practically free. The complaint has been prevalent at Handsworth, but it has largely subsided there, and many cases are reported from Aston. Forty-five children on the register of Upper Thomas Street school are down with measles, and 23 from the Vicarage Road school. The total number of new cases for last week was 1,028. The disease is an exceptionally mild form, and only 12 deaths occurred. The ratio of adults affected the disease is not out of the usual proportion. Three deaths from spotted fever were reported.
