BIRMINGHAM POLICE COURT

RAID ON WORKMEN’S TRAINS

Twelve workpeople were charged with travelling on the Midland Railway between stations for which their tickets were not available. Defendants with tickets available between King’s Norton and Longbridge were found to have joined the train at Selly Oak, and in some cases earlier stations. A special punch of tickets at King’s Norton proved that several people who said they boarded the train there could not possibly have done so. Fines from 10s. to 20s. were imposed.

The Court was occupied a considerable time in dealing with a summons against an assistant manager with a season ticket between Camp Hill and Longbridge, who admitted travelling by an alternative route to that permitted by his ticket. He said he had shown his ticket to officials and never been pulled up. He was fined 10s.
