A NATIVE OF BIRMINGHAM

FAMOUS WATER-COLOUR PAINTER’S RETURN FROM THE CONTINENT

Mr. Bernard Evans, R. I., the well known water colour painter, has returned to London after a long residence on the Continent. He is now 74, and doubtless feels the need of rest, for his long life has been a very busy one.

Since he came to London from his native Birmingham at the age of 21, his work has been a very frequent feature of the Royal Academy exhibitions. He was chosen to represent British art in 1903 at the Paris Exhibition, and later at St. Louis. He founded the City of London Society of Artists.

He comes of a clever family. “George Eliot,” the novelist, was a cousin of his, and his father was associated with Pugin in the revival of mediæval architecture- “Mainly About People”-in the “Star.”
