KING’S NORTON OFFICER’S DISTINCTION

AWARDED BAR TO MILITARY CROSS

Temp. Captain John Wemyss Hood, of the Border Regiment, who has received a bar to his Military Cross, is son of Mr. John Wood, of Northfield Road, King’s Norton.

The deed for which the award has been made is described as follows:-“Although wounded, he led a company forward and captured and held a position in the face of much opposition. He afterwards returned to battalion headquarters, having thoroughly organised the defence, and laid a telephone wire as he came back. He set a splendid example of courage and endurance under very trying conditions.” The Military Cross was gazetted November 25, 1916. Prior to joining the Army Captain Hood was in the Civil Service, being attached to the Admiralty Office in London, and also at Gosport.
