BIRMINGHAM BIGAMY CHARGE.

MARRIED WIDOW

At Birmingham Police Court to-day, Harry Claydon (38), asphalter, 3, Albert Terrace, Halberton Street, Birmingham, was committed for trial by the Stipendiary on a charge of bigamy.

It was alleged that he married Elisabeth Gertrude Barwood, a widow, of 14, West Street, Hereford, at a Registry Office in June last, his former wife, whom he married on December 2, 1906, St. John’s Church, Newington, being still alive.

Prisoner said did not want to marry Barwood but she threatened to drown herself if he did not.

Mrs. Barwood said she might have made the threat. His legal wife said her husband had been good to her and had always sent her money when away working from home.

Bail was allowed.
