ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY
AWARDS TO BIRMINGHAM MEN
The Lord Mayor (Alderman Brooks) at the Watch Committee, this morning, presented the Royal Humane Society awards as follows:-
Testimonial on vellum to Charles Curley, boatman of 73, Rosary Road, Erdington; a donation of £1 to each, and the thanks of the committee to Alfred Vann, machinist, 121, Garrison Street, and George Lannan, stamp driver, 237, Wright Road, Saltley; the vellum to Police-constable T. Beirne; the parchment to Police-constable Clancy; the parchment to Albert Walker, caster, 8, The Green, King’s Norton; the parchment to Isaac Yates, metal caster, 62, Roma Road, Tyseley; a donation of 10s. and the thanks of the committee to Arthur Wakeling, errand boy, 16, Rosebery Street; the parchment to Stephen Stokes, carter, 90, Sydenham Road.
The police-constable awards were for their perseverance in applying artificial respiration, and the other awards were for rescuing people who had fallen into deep water.
On behalf of the Society for the Protection of Life from Fire, the Lord Mayor presented a guinea each to Special-constable James Pugh, Special-constable John Wood, and Police-constable James Whitehouse, for courage and promptitude at a fire in a house at Devonshire Street, on July 27 last.
Firemen Baglow and Kirk were presented with long-service medals for 20 years’ service, Fireman Masters was awarded an additional five years’ bar to his long-service medal, and it was decided to allow Station Officer Seals to retain the long-service medal awarded to him by the Professional Fire Brigade Officers’ Association.
