WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL.
A LEAGUE TOURNAMENT IN BIRMINGHAM.
Mr. E. M. Mitton presided at a meeting held to reorganise the Birmingham Wednesday Football Association. Five clubs were represented, and it was decided to reform the association and to conduct a tournament on the League system. It is hoped to secure the adhesion of Aston Wednesday, Birmingham Dairy, and teams representing the early closers in Saltley, Smethwick, Lozells, South Birmingham, and West Bromwich, while it is probable there will be applications from aircraft clubs, of which there are several in the district, and the R.A.M.C. men engaged at various hospitals. The association have six trophies available for competition, and these will probably be put up under varying conditions on the knock-out principle. The chief idea is to get money for charitable purposes and at the same time supply sport for those who do not have a Saturday half-holiday. The meeting was adjourned until September 24 on the understanding that advertisements should be placed asking for entries for the League competition, and Mr. A. F. Taylor, Malvern House, Trinity Road, Handsworth, undertook to act as hon. secretary pro tem.
