WORLD WAR ONE IN SONG

Have you ever wondered how troops were persuaded to go into battle, what kept men and women going throughout extraordinary hardships, or how music impacted the First World War? Now Malvern’s very own Trench Choir present a conference tracing the history of music in the war 100 years ago – and also retell the history of the Great War through the music of today.

The itinerary for the day includes
1:30: ‘The Bells of Hell: what the troops sang in the First World War’, a talk by Sir Stephen Sedley
2:50: Trench Choir – the people we lost…workshop based on the experiences of relatives of Trench Choir members
3:20: Song-writing workshop led by Louise Jordan
5:00: Trench Choir: The American entry into the war
7:30: Louise Jordan headlines an evening performance, supported by Trench Choir with their performance of ‘Women’s Work’, covering the history of what women did in the war through songs from the time
