PROVISION OF GARDENS FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN.
At a meeting of the Parks Committee of the Birmingham City Council, yesterday, presided over by Councillor Johnson, the Administrative Sub-committee expressed the opinion that it was in the interests of food production that pigs should kept in some of the city parks. They, accordingly, recommended that the superintendent should be instructed to make arrangements for pigs to be kept at Perry, Lightwoods, King’s Heath, and Warley Parks and this was agreed to.
It was reported to the Birmingham Parks Committee yesterday that an application had been received by the Administration Committee from Mr. Moore, head master Cotteridge Schools, asking for some ground in Cotteridge Park for the purpose of school gardens. The object in view was to enable some of the boys to be instructed in food production. The sub-committee stated that they had instructions to the superintendent to allocate about 800 yards for the purpose desired, and also to grant any similar application for the use of ground in the parks. Their action was approved.
