Women and the Vote
Sir,—Kindly permit me to say in answer to Miss Rose Berkeley that I think she should not be pessimistic with regard to women’s suffrage because of the attitude of women themselves. My firm belief now they have the vote (which I believe the majority hardly realise) is that we should educate, by conversation and otherwise, all our sisters, and bring to them the knowledge that they can be a great power for good to the community at large.
I have seen the working of the adult suffrage in Australia and the interest taken by women in politics. They have set us examples which we might do well to follow, so that I feel sure the women’s vote will not be a barbaric and retrogressive step, as is thought by Miss Berkeley.
A little knowledge is often a stumbling block; let us try and get more light.
Yours etc. J. Archer, Small Heath.
