TO RECRUIT WOMEN.
A WEEK’S CAMPAIGN ARRANGED FOR BIRMINGHAM.
With the idea of obtaining women recruits, the Ministry of Labour have arranged to hold an exhibition and recruiting rally at Messrs, Lewis’s for the week following 11 July. There will be an opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on that day, and the Lord and Lady Mayoress will preside at various meetings to be held during the week. It is expected that among the speakers will be the Minister of Labour (Mr. G. H. Roberts)
The Bishop of Birmingham, in his monthly letter, refers to the rally, and says “the principal needs of the moment are 12,000 cooks and waitresses, and 5,000 clerks. Free training will be given to likely candidates.”
Messrs. Lewis’s are arranging for window displays to attract volunteers for the V.A.D., Q.M.A.A.C., and the Land Army, and from to-morrow until 17 July a member of the Q.M.A.A.C. will be in attendance at Lewis’s to give an information that intending recruits may desire.
