INVITED WOUNDED SOLDIERS FAIL TO ARRIVE AT ASTON
Great disappointment was met at the Aston Conservative Club, on Saturday by the non-arrival of 30 wounded soldiers who had been invited from the Sutton Coldfield Convalescent Camp. Every preparation had been made for them, the rooms being decorated and the tables laid for a meat tea.
A letter was received from the camp the previous day saying the men would turn up at three o’clock, and after waiting some considerable time and failing to get into communication with the camp by telephone, the committee were compelled to dispose of the food as best they could, the concert arranged for the evening also being cancelled.
