APPEAL FOR SERBIA.
FLAG DAY IN BIRMINGHAM
Flag day collections in Birmingham were resumed on Saturday after an interval of nearly a month, and will be continued each week for the next six weeks. The object of the respite was to give the regular collectors a rest. The appeal on Saturday was on behalf of Serbia. Birmingham has already contributed over £10,000 to help the people of this stricken country, and another £1,000 it is expected, will be added as the result of the street collection. Last year’s street effort realised considerably more, but it was made in June, when everybody was in town, whereas just at present there is still an enormous number of people away on holiday, and this will considerably affect the total takings.
There were fewer collectors than usual, also owing to holiday arrangements, but the streets were well covered.
