Conference: British Art & War 1914-18
January 17, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
Join us at the Barber Institute for a special one day colloquium exploring British Art & War during the First World War, inspired by our C.R.W. Nevinson exhibition.
The impact of the First World War was experienced by both servicemen and civilians. Demonstrating that the war should be understood as an all-encompassing social crisis affecting everyone, this British Art & War 1914-18 colloquium will feature papers given by leading art historians.
Papers will examine a diversity of perspectives of war in artists’ works, ranging from the serviceman on the battle front to pacifists on the home front.
Speakers include:
Professor Michael Walsh- C.R.W. Nevinson’s most recent biographer
Dr Sue Malvern- a leading authority on the British Official War Artists Scheme and an expert on war and gender
Dr Jonathan Black- author of the new book C..R.W. Nevinson: The Complete Prints
Dr Richenda Roberts- curator of Rebel Visions: The War Art of C.R.W. Nevinson
